2.0 out of 5 stars Needs to be redesigned, September 16, 2009
By David T. Alexander (New York, New York)
The light I am sure works great for the Kindle and Kindle 2, but it doesn't throw a wide enough beam to cover the entire Kindle DX screen, the product needed to be redesigned for the Kindle DX instead of rebadged. It does fit well into the the M-Edge case though for easy transport.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not A Mighty Bright but VERY Handy, September 23, 2009
By Jim Thomas (Martinez, California)
No, this isn't nearly as bright as the Mighty Bright XtraFlex Clip-On but it is just plain great to have a light with you anytime, anywhere. Just like part of the reason we all bought Kindles in the first place. This fits very cleverly into the various M-Edge cases and hey, it doesn't light up the stadium but you can read by it. If it was brighter, an easy 5 Stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Priorities" Is The Real Question., October 27, 2009
By medi (Southern Calif.)
Like other reviewers, I too have this light as well as a "Mighty Bright". For a fair comparison of these two lights it is important to mention the advantages as well as the limitations of each respective lights. As is appropriately named, the "Mighty Bright" certainly out-shines (no pun intended) the e-illuminator when comparing light intensity and coverage area of the DX screen. The intensity is subjectively twice as bright as the e-illuminator and the Mighty Bright light easily covers the entire area of the DX screen. The light intensity of the e-illuminator is barely passable in terms of reading and is certainly "OK" for short periods of time (perhaps an hour or so) but for prolong periods of reading in the dark most peoples' eyes would tire. The coverage area of the screen is also just barely passable for the e-illuminator; no matter how you try to position the light there remains a small area of the screen that, while it is still possible to read, it is a bit annoying because it is constantly in the shadows.

On the other hand, the advantages of the e-illumintor over the Mighty Bright is obvious. For those M-edge covers that are compatible with the light, the light is housed nicely within the cover without any bulges in the cover. Additionally, the cover is designed in such a manner that there is also little danger that the light will accidentally scratch the DX screen. Convenience of housing this light safely within the cover is the one and only advantage of this light.

The bottom line: if the convenience of the e-illuminator light out-weighs all your other considerations then this is the light for you. However if convenience takes a "back seat" to readability, then stick to the Mighty Bright or something similar. I think I will use my e-illuminator solely for travelling purposes but will keep my Mighty Bright for more routine use. What is your priorities?

My rating? 3 stars for "use" (readability) and 5 stars for convenience so I guess this averages out to a 4.
