Mozilla Firefox is not allowing me to bookmark pages?

Mozilla had been working great for me until today i went in to go to a message board and it said it updated, I in return lost all old bookmarks and can't bookmark anything at all now. The box comes up and when i hit ok it does nothing at all.

First off all make sure you do not have any disk errors on your hard drive, if you switched your computer off for instance without shutting it down properley then when firefox comes to write files to the disk they could be corrupted.

To check your drive on bootup go to my computer and right click on your hard disk and choose properties and then go to tools tab and click "error checking - check now" and make sure the "automatically fix file system errors" is checked - you will probably need to reboot.

If that has not solved the case then the chances are your firefox application has corrupted the data. The easiest way I find to do this, is do a search for a file called "bookmarks.html" as this is the file that firefox uses to store all your favourites. Make a copy of it somewhere.

Then do a search for "profile" which should show up in documents & settings\firefox and delete it. NOTE THIS WILL REMOVE YOUR PROFILE FOR good.

Start firefox again and it will give you a fresh profile. Then go to Bookmarks in the menu and select "Organise bookmarks" and then click on "file.. import" function and select the BOOKMARKS.html file that you saved. It will then re-import your bookmarks and your ready to go. You will have lost your 'cookies' which means logging back into your mail and websites but you only need to do that once.
