Leather Book
How can you safely remove labels from an older Book with valuable leather binding?
Maybe I'm just really paranoid/anal but seeing the words valuable and leather would make me question using rubbing alcohol or WD40, lol. Books are pretty fragile. 
Is it a price tag? I would try a plastic scraper to gently get underneath and maybe rub it with a damp cloth. For leather furniture or bags, I always apply a conditioner after treating a stain, so the same might apply here.
I would call a book dealer in your area for an educated opinion (or maybe one will come along here?) If the book or binding really is of any value, I would find the most gentle method so you don't discolor or dry it out.
