How do I get the blood off of my cats paws?
My cat just got declawed and he has been back to the vet numerous times for it but they never do anything to clean them. he has hard blood clots in between his toes and it looks like he is in pain every time he walks or jumps onto the back of my love seat which is his favorite perch. does anyone have any safe non-toxic ideas as to how to clean them and make my little one happy and playful again?
I am so sorry that you and your baby are having so much trouble. I have had 3 cats declawed and have never had the kind of trouble you are having. Apparently the vet you used did not do it properly has I have never had any of my 3 to have have blood on them after. My vet uses a turniquet (spelled wrong I'm sure) to prevent bleeding and then he glues the holes shut.
However, you can use one of two things to clean your cat. First you can put peroxide on a paper towel or cotton ball and wipe his feet off. Second you can use saline solution (contact solution) to clean them. It breaks down the protein and helps to clean the blood off (had to use on a bird once).
Also be sure to use shredded newspaper in his litter box until they are healed so that he does not get any dirt or grit into his paws.
Furthermore, don't let anyone tell you declawing is cruel, if down properly the cat does not show signs of discomfort. Unfortunately, the vet you used apparently did not know what he/she was doing.
