What's Better For Musical Instruments/Keys Nickel Plated or Silver Plated?
I am looking into buying a flute and an intermediate clarinet the only problem being how many different choices there are. What's better nickel plated or silver plated and why?
i generally say silver is better because technically, it's lower on the reactivity series than nickel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reactivity_series if you dont know what that is, simply put nickel is more likely to react with air and tarnish than silver. however, i must warn you that silver still does tarnish quite a bit if you dont clean it and wipe it properly after every practice. silver olated instruments also give a sligthly more resonant sound as compared to nickel, and it sounds more bright and melodic. of course, it's best if you could go to the store and actually try it for yourself before buying. that way you can determin what's best. try seeking advice from experts too they would help you. have fun!
