Can 16 year olds in Illinois use gas/flame stoves to serve food at a restaurant?
I can't find out where in the Department of Labor of Illinois if a 16 year old can use a gas stove to serve and cook food at a restaurant. The restaurant is family owned. I don't want to get the business written up, or even me.
To serve at a table with a portable gas stove in most states is against fire codes. If he is cooking on a gas burner in the kitchen with proper hood systems and the kitchen is in code, then he should be fine. OSHA states any minor may not operate equipment that can harm them........ such as hobart mixers, meat slicers,,,,,,,, check with your local heath inspector .
