Paw Care – Neglecting Their Issues Can Cause A Great Deal Of Harm

Watch Out Where You Walk Them

Stop and think for a minute. Just because it’s natural for a pet to walk around with nothing on their paws doesn’t mean they can’t have serious issues just like we might if we were to go barefoot all the time.

Imagine walking everywhere you take your dog or cat for a stroll with nothing on your feet. I’m sure it wouldn’t be an easy or fun task for you. Look out for that glass, on no not another piece of gum or yikes its 90 degrees out here my feet are burning up. You know it isn’t any different for your pets.

Where you walk with them is a major reason they might have issues with their paws. The terrain on which we drag them during a hike or leisurely walk has plenty of hazards that we need to protect them from.

I’ve seen people walking pets on the beach. It’s sunny and breezy out and a great day for a stroll. It’s also 95 out and that sand is like a Bunsen burner on their paws. Keep off the dry sand and take them to the waterline and this will keep their paws nice and cool. What a difference.

For those that like to walk or already live in a mountainous or rocky area, you need to beware. Even the tiniest of pebbles that seem unimportant to you can have an extremely damaging effect on their paws. Those rocks you love to climb over with ease have lots of tiny sharp edges that can cut their paws up in a second. Don’t forget their paws are not like sneakers. They tend to slip quite easily on just about everything. This makes getting cuts more apparent every step of the way.

Living in the city has many similar issues for paw concerns. In major cities we are all too familiar with the grating prevalent on many sidewalks. You pet can get their nails caught or cut their paws on the grating itself. How about all the garbage you find walking down the street. Bottle caps, discarded lit cigarettes, slivers of plastic or glass and even chemicals like rock salt left over from a winter storm. Every one of these items can cause serious damage to your pet’s paws.

Another area of concern that people overlook is the length of their pet’s nails. If you don’t take care of the nails and keep them trimmed, they can actually cause as much damage as foreign materials might. Their nails can curve up and cut into their paws causing a lot of damage. This is exaggerated even more especially when we take them for a jog or a brisk walk.

Remember a dog doesn’t complain unless they are in severe pain. They want to stay on our good side and please us no matter what. So unless we check them constantly how do we know if they have issues?

Protecting Pet Paws and Attending to Issues

A good method to protect your pet’s paws and keep them in great shape is to use Paw Wax. I’ll bet you didn’t even realize it exists. This material can really help your animal especially if they don’t like walking on slippery surfaces. This really does a great job by increasing their grip on these slippery surfaces. If you find an issue with their paws take care of it immediately. Get them to a veterinarian if you even think it’s remotely serious. Just as you might have a problem with your feet, a paw problem can cause them to be upset, aggressive and even to be depressed. They’re family and deserve to be treated correctly and promptly.

Pet’s paws are extremely susceptible to infection and can be fungal, bacterial or parasitic.
